Kung Fu San Soo of Orange
County Reviews
Congratulations Doug on your school. Great facility, quality mats for us old timers, and most of all a friendly, learning atmosphere, no attitudes and quality instruction from Masters in the art.
Self defense instruction is needed now, more than ever.

I want to comment of my recent experience with Kung Fu San Soo of Orange County. Having no experience with martial arts, I was glad to get a referral to the program. I found Master Doug to be very accommodating to my goals and objectives. My intention as a middle aged person was to gain mobility, strengthen my legs, lower body and learn self defense skills.
.
Since starting the program my mobility has vastly increased particularly in my legs, along with an increase in stamina. In addition , I am building my skills. Typically the classes are comprised of people of various ages and skill levels. Training is structured to advance participants from start to advanced levels, working at a pace that is comfortable. I highly recommend Master Doug and The Kung Fu San Soo of Orange County program.

Kung Fu San Soo has been a great experience with Master Doug Juola. Everyone is welcoming and willing to help each other. It is perfect for all levels of experience, from someone like me who has never had any martial arts experience, to blackbelts. It doesn’t matter if you’re old or young; male or female; everyone can learn from where you are at. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who has any interest in learning kung fu. It’s a great workout and you will develop confidence with how to defend yourself!

f you’re looking for flashy kicks and Instagram-ready choreographed fights, keep walking. But if you’re searching for a legit, no-nonsense martial art that emphasizes real-world self-defense and personal growth, Kung Fu San Soo is the place to be.
I’ve been training here for six months, and I can honestly say it’s changed the way I think about martial arts—and about myself. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, and you can tell they’ve put in years (if not decades) mastering this art. They’re not here to just hand out belts or put on a show—they’re here to teach you how to move, think, and protect yourself in any situation.
What makes San Soo different? It’s raw, practical, and effective. The techniques are based on real human movement and natural responses. There’s no sport fighting here—just a deep understanding of body mechanics and how to end a confrontation quickly and decisively.
The community is tight-knit, respectful, and ego-free. Whether you’re a beginner or have experience in other martial arts, you’ll feel welcome from day one.
If you’re serious about self-defense and want to study an authentic martial art with roots in tradition and effectiveness, Kung Fu San Soo is worth checking out. Just be ready to sweat and learn something real.

Practical self-defense, great atmosphere”**
I stumbled into this studio about three months ago after a friend recommended it, and I had zero idea what Kung Fu San Soo even was. I’ve done some boxing in the past, but this is a totally different approach—much more focused on practical self-defense rather than sparring or competition.
What I really appreciate is how hands-on and detailed the instructors are. My first class was honestly a bit intimidating (not gonna lie, it’s intense), but they walked me through each move step-by-step. It’s definitely not about looking cool—everything they teach has a purpose.
The crowd here is pretty mixed—some younger folks, some older—but everyone’s respectful and helpful. No macho attitude, which was a big relief for me.
One small heads-up: the facility itself is a little old-school. If you’re expecting a fancy gym with showers and juice bars, this isn’t it. But if you care about learning legit techniques and getting in shape while doing it, I’d highly recommend trying a class.
